Open Source Movement

copyleftThe Open Source Movement is the sharing and collaborating to improve software source code. It allows “modification and adaptation to suit a user’s needs” and “provides competition that prevents monopolisation”. It “advocates the advancement of applications used by millions of users daily” (youtube.com) which can speed up further developments that technology companies might be struggling to push forward whether for lack of skills, legal issues or any other reason.

The movement allows for the development of free programmes as alternatives to large corporations [ie. MS Office (££) v. Open Office (free)].
