Social media origins

Social media is the collective of online communications channels dedicated to community-based input, interaction, content-sharing and collaboration. Websites and applications dedicated to forums, microblogging, social networking , social bookmarking, social curation, and wikis are among the different types of social media.

Social media are computer-mediated tools that allow people or companies to create, share, or exchange information, career interests, ideas, and pictures/videos in virtual communities and networks. Social media is defined as “a group of Internet-based applications that build on the ideological and technological foundations of Web 2.0, and that allow the creation and exchange of user-generated content.

Primarily internet or cellular phone based applications and tools to share information among people. Social media includes popular networking websites, like Facebook and Twitter; as well as bookmarking sites like Digg or Reddit. It involves blogging and forums and any aspect of an interactive presence which allows individuals ability to engage in conversations with one another, often as a discussion over a particular blog post, news article, or event.

Social Media is the future of communication, a countless array of internet based tools and platforms that increase and enhance the sharing of information. This new form of media makes the transfer of text, photos, audio, video, and information in general increasingly fluid among internet users. Social Media has relevance not only for regular internet users, but business as well.

Privacy vs. Data

In our days social media has a huge impact on our lives whether we want it or not. The evolution of mankind is using as it’s main tool the technology.

Therefore, we can say that social media is the way to evolution and innovation. But are those evolutions and innovations right or wrong? Is it bad or is it good thing to let social media having so much power and influence in our private life? How can we say what if it’s useful to be spied online by locations apps such as Google Maps or CityMapper? Is it not useless to post so much on social media, knowing that the articles we post are transformed into date to get tracked? Who control those devices? How is the data collected be used in favor or against us?

police-850053_640To present the advantages and the disadvantages of using localization data apps, social media chats on privacy, I referred to people coming from all over the world, all ages and social background such as rural and urban environment tracked by a single entity: police authorities. A lot of people are using social media networks, even criminals. Police started tracking those criminal by inventing smart stratagems. Hunting villains down using social media networks appeared to be conclusive and brought good results. As mentioned by the website www.digitaltrends.com:

“Just as the Internet makes it easier to catch criminals, it also makes it easier for citizens to report police abuse.”

defenses-788789_640Even though, a lot of people are saying that they will not use these networks just for the reason that they want to be monitored by official authorities and state, mentalities are slowly accepting the share of data with governments. For example in the United States of America, 62% of Americans by the Pew Research Center said they had no problem cooperating with the government into sharing information about criminal records of individual citizens online.

As a conclusion I want to say that we can use social media with care without excess. We must now where to post and not to post  to avoid the negative impacts and live a drama-free life.
